Matthew & Vicki got engaged at Lincoln Park Zoo Nature Boardwalk under the Studio Gang Pavillion, also known to many Chicago Photographer’s as the ‘honeycomb’. One of the many parts of the proposal planning process I enjoy is getting to hear ( and sometimes help form ) the storyline the groom-to-be is going to use to convince the bride-to-be to go along for the trip to their planned location. Matthew’s story wasn’t just contained to the day of the proposal but was an elaborate one used several days during the week before. He bought a new thermal coffee cup that the ring box would fit in and started using it the week before so she wouldn’t suspect anything when he carried it along on the walk to the proposal spot. It worked! It’s so fun to see how engagement proposals have evolved over the years.

This pavillion location is a VERY popular spot for photos. Its a top request for my enagagement, wedding, proposal and even family photo sessions. Many call it the honeycomb but it was really actually inspired by a tortoise shell, who knew!?! The wood pavillion is by The Studio Gang Architects of Chicago. This popular sculpture has become an iconic place to visit among tourists and Chicagoans alike. I will gladly forever be spending many saturdays at the ‘honeycomb’.
