Collin & Christine’s summer wedding at Michigan Shores Club in Wilmette Illinois

Vendors: Venue: Michigan Shores Club | Church: St Clement Church
Collin and Christine were married at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lincoln Park. St. Clement is one of the oldest churches in Chicago. It was built in 1918. Not only is it very old but it is very dark and has many parish rules. Very few churches in the world have natural light flooding the seats. It all stems back to why churches were build with few windows. One of the reasons is because the architects and the church wanted the participants focus to stay inside the church on their worship. The trick with wedding ceremonies in dark churches is that most churches have a rule that you can only use flash ( to light the subjects ) during the first 10 mins of the ceremony during the processional. This can lead to very dark ceremony photos. With quickly advancing technology we are currently at the point where mirrorless cameras can allow for the use of high ISO settings that can allow for brighter photos. St Clement may be lacking natural light but it does not lack drama. One of my favorite features of this church is the altar in the round. This kind of altar placement allows for photographers to get deep side views of the couple. Most churches have a flat design that only allows for photos to be taken from the back. My second favorite thing about the church is its use of cirlces, semi-circles and dome architecture making it one of a kind aesthetically.
Collin & Christine’s day was on a beautiful late summer weekend. After the ceremony we took the trolly to North Ave Beach and Gross Point Light House to take photos in front of the skyline. The reception took place at the “members only” Michigan Shore Club where they partied the night away and ended the night with a sparkler exit. Stay tuned for my latest Michigan Shores Club wedding of Phil & Mary.
