When Paul contacted me to photograph his surprise engagement proposal I was delighted to participate. Surprise proposals are one of the most exciting and emotional things you can capture. Not often do I have the chance to be incognito as a photographer to catch people by surprise within the short few seconds of a proposal.
Paul had all the details down. He called in both of their families from Michigan and beyond to witness the proposal and help surprise Katherine. Their pup Ivy came along as well and Paul invited their guitar instructor and friend, Jason McInnes of The Olde Town School of Folk Music to move in a serenade the two once the proposal was made! There were homemade banners, champagne, an acoustic serenade and fireworks to celebrate. Katherine thought her and Paul were just going to a Friday night dinner, little did she know her family was waiting for her hiding around the Kinzie Street Bridge downtown Chicago.
The intensity built as Paul departed from his family’s hideout spot to go meet Katherine for a walk to their dinner reservations. The 5 o’clock Friday rush hour started to crowd the bride sidewalk and the two came walking towards the middle of the bridge where he stopped Katherine to begin his proposal. He went down on one knee and and when she said yes, he scooped her off her feet, literally and the goosebumps began. Jason moved in with his sweet tunes and the family crept up to embrace the new couple. The rest is history! Congrats to the future bride and groom! By the way, that amazing engagement ring is by D.Diamante Limited located in The Jewelers Row in Chicago.

Mission Complete! Congrats to the future Mr & Mrs, and all the family! I loved the time I spent with both Paul and Katherine’s families, they were super sweet and welcoming. I felt like part of the family in such a short period of time.
